Joshua and Fury set for Cardiff heavyweight clash with reported £150m purse

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are scheduled to meet at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11 in a long-awaited heavyweight contest that could become the richest fight in British boxing, according to the source material. The Sun reports that the bout is expected to generate a £150 million ($198 million) prize pot. Neither fighter is expected to have an A-side advantage in the purse split, which would leave Joshua and Fury with about £75 million ($99 million) each.

SunSport reported that both boxers have previously earned roughly £65 million ($85 million) for a single fight. The reported Cardiff payday would therefore exceed their previous career-best earnings by about £10 million. Joshua and Fury were originally scheduled to meet in 2021, when both held major heavyweight titles.

That proposed two-fight series collapsed after Fury was required to fulfil a contractual obligation to complete a trilogy against Deontay Wilder. The British rivals subsequently took separate paths and both later fought Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian defeated Fury twice and Joshua twice before the former rivals finally reached an agreement to meet.

A venue in the United States, including Madison Square Garden in New York, was reportedly considered. Joshua told SunSport that he insisted on fighting in Britain, saying British boxing had changed his life and that it was “the UK or nothing”. The contest could be the final fight for either boxer, as both are in the latter stages of their careers.

The bout is also scheduled to take place without a rematch clause.
