Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged residents to avoid actions that could threaten peace and stability as Nigeria’s 2027 general elections approach. Yusuf made the appeal on Thursday during an address marking the 66th National Independence Anniversary at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium. He called on residents to uphold peace, unity and mutual respect, and to reject violence, intolerance and criminality.
The governor also asked Nigerians to pray for a peaceful, free, fair and credible election. He praised security agencies for their efforts to protect lives and property and said his administration would continue working with them, the Federal Government, local governments, traditional and religious institutions, the private sector and development partners. Yusuf said the state would provide additional logistics and operational support to the military, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and Department of State Services, particularly in vulnerable and frontline communities.
He said grassroots security coordination had been strengthened in areas including Tsanyawa, Ghari, Gwarzo, Shanono, Bagwai, Rogo, Kiru/Bebeji, Karaye and Tudun Wada/Doguwa. According to the governor, the measures are intended to protect lives, restore confidence and enable residents to return to farms and normal economic activities. He also said the state’s multi-agency task force on drug abuse and illicit trafficking, established alongside an executive order, was producing results.
Yusuf said his administration remained committed to consolidating progress in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, water supply, security and human-capital development. He added that the government had provided start-up capital, livestock and skills support to thousands of beneficiaries across the state.
