Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan says the Muziris Heritage Project will be developed into an international tourism destination, with expanded water-taxi and kayaking services, new museums and water-sports facilities. The plan also includes traditional cuisine, hotels and measures aimed at creating jobs and supporting local businesses.

Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has said the Muziris Heritage Project will be developed as an international heritage tourism destination. He made the announcement on Sunday while launching water taxis and kayaking services in the region as part of the project.

Satheesan said the services would also be expanded to other areas. The proposed expansion includes Ezhikkara, Kottappuram and Azheekode. He said the project would connect regions including Kodungalloor, Azheekode, Kaipamangalam and Vypeen.

Satheesan said the Chavittunatakam centre at Gothuruth and restaurants serving traditional cuisine would be further developed. Plans also include new museums and water-sports facilities, as well as new hotels and restaurants in Paravur, Kodungalloor and neighbouring areas. He said public participation would be ensured in the project to create more job opportunities and promote local businesses.

Tourism Minister P.C. Vishnunadh, who chaired the meeting, said the Muziris project would be developed as a global model in tourism. Vishnunadh said boating services that had been suspended were revived within a time-bound programme.

The services formed part of the government’s 100-day programme, according to the report. Satheesan also attended an event in North Paravur where he inaugurated seven new Kerala State Road Transport Corporation services and a new bus bay. He said the government aimed to make the corporation a professional entity with advanced facilities.

According to the Chief Minister, three people had donated ₹40 lakh each to buy new buses, while others had expressed interest. Thirty-three legislators had also given permission for buses to be purchased using development funds. Satheesan said the KSRTC would introduce new inter-State services to destinations including Palani, Madurai and Velankanni.
