Allied Peoples’ Movement governorship candidate Bimbo Adekanmbi has pledged to maintain and expand education policies in Oyo State if elected in 2027. In a statement marking the 2026 Teachers’ Day, he promised continued salary payments, promotions, allowances and leadership opportunities for educators.

The Allied Peoples’ Movement governorship candidate in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has promised to sustain and expand support for teachers if elected governor in 2027. Adekanmbi made the pledge in a statement issued by the party’s state Director of Communication and spokesperson, Yinka Oladoyinbo, in Ibadan on Sunday to mark the 2026 Teachers’ Day. He described teachers as central to national development and said the quality of a country’s progress was directly connected to the quality of its educators.

Adekanmbi praised teachers for nurturing young people and preparing them for professional and civic life. The candidate said Oyo’s education improvements reflected teachers’ dedication and cooperation. He also highlighted a claim that the state now ranks third nationally in recent National Examinations Council performance measures, attributing the result to teachers and the present administration’s education policies.

Adekanmbi said that, if elected, he would build on the foundation laid by Governor Seyi Makinde. His promises included maintaining prompt salary payments, including the payment reportedly made on the 25th of each month and known as GSM Day. He also pledged to continue teachers’ promotion and upgrading in line with global standards.

Other commitments included retaining the 27.5 per cent teaching allowance, leave bonuses and 13th-month salary bonuses. The candidate further promised to expand leadership opportunities for educators serving as permanent secretaries, tutors general and inspectors general. He said additional reforms would be introduced under what he called “Omituntun 3.0” to strengthen the education sector and improve teachers’ opportunities.

Adekanmbi said teachers’ work often went unrecognised but had effects across generations. His commitments are campaign promises ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
