Bailhongal police in Karnataka have arrested a 33-year-old man over the alleged murder of his wife at Amatur village. Police say marital differences and the man’s suspicion that she was in a relationship with another person preceded the killing. The investigation remains under way.

Police in Bailhongal, Karnataka, have arrested a 33-year-old man over the alleged murder of his wife at Amatur village in Belagavi district. The deceased was identified as Lakshmi, 32, of Indira Nagar in Bailhongal. Her husband, Raju Lakshman Madamageri, was arrested on September 29, according to the police.

Police said the couple had marital differences and that Lakshmi had approached a court seeking a divorce. They also alleged that Raju suspected she was in a relationship with another man. According to the complaint, Lakshmi had travelled towards Aravalli and Nayanagar villages on September 27 to sell “kudala pinna”.

Police allege that Raju took her to a location near the Government Chikkahalla in Amatur between 12.45 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. The police allege that he strangled her with her veil and struck her head with a stone, causing her death.
