Ogun PDP figure urges non-indigenes and hunters to back Tinubu in 2027

Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Segun Showunmi has called on non-indigene associations and hunters’ groups in Ogun State to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Speaking in Abeokuta, he described the election as a chance to demonstrate political strength and urged supporters to mobilise voters for a wide margin.
Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Segun Showunmi has urged non-indigene associations and hunters’ groups in Ogun State to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027. Showunmi made the appeal on Saturday during a consultation with members of the groups in Abeokuta, the state capital. He asked them to mobilise their members and ensure they voted for Tinubu in the presidential election.
He described the poll as an “election of liberation” and said the objective should be not only to secure victory but also to produce a substantial margin for the president. Showunmi said the result should demonstrate the political strength of the South. He also argued that political power should continue to rotate between Nigeria’s regions, saying Tinubu should complete an eight-year tenure.
Showunmi said the groups’ support had been valuable to him and to his political activities in Ogun. Addressing the non-indigenes, he described them as important to the state’s social and economic development. He urged them not to stay away from the election, saying their votes would be significant.
Francis Nwanze, chairman of the Non-Indigene Association of Ogun State’s Egba Zone, responded on behalf of the groups and declared support for Tinubu. He said the association had received Showunmi’s backing for its activities, including assistance with inauguration bills. Nwanze said the association, established 20 years ago, had coordinators across Ogun’s 20 local government areas.
Its members include Igbo, Igede, Tiv, Calabar and Edo associations, among others. Hunters’ representatives also pledged support, with Yusuf Alao saying the group had more than 1,000 members.
