Ogun PDP rejects former chairman’s claim that party has collapsed
The Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party has rejected former chairman Sikirulai Ogundele’s description of the party as collapsed. Publicity Secretary Kayode Adebayo said the party remained organised and was preparing for the 2027 election, while defending Oladipupo Adebutu’s candidacy and criticising Ogundele’s record in office.
The Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party has dismissed former chairman Sikirulai Ogundele’s claim that the party has collapsed, saying it remains organised ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, made the statement on Saturday in response to comments reportedly made by Ogundele during an engagement in Ilaro. The former chairman had described the PDP as a collapsed and burning house.
Adebayo said the remarks were unbecoming of a former party chairman and described them as a reflection of Ogundele’s declining political relevance. He also alleged that Ogundele’s leadership contributed to internal crises within the state chapter. According to Adebayo, party congresses became contentious under Ogundele, while reconciliation efforts failed.
He linked those difficulties to the party’s electoral setbacks in the state. The publicity secretary also defended the PDP’s choice of Oladipupo Adebutu as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election. He described the decision as a strategic move intended to return the party to power in Ogun.
Adebayo said Adebutu’s personal investment in public service demonstrated commitment to the development of Ogun State. He rejected comparisons involving Senator Olamilekan Adeola and former governors Olusegun Osoba and Gbenga Daniel, calling such comparisons inappropriate. He maintained that the party had become more united following the departure of what he called transactional leaders.
“The Ogun PDP is well organized and rejigged for success,” Adebayo said.
