Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to protect their ballots during the 2027 presidential election by mobilising voters, deploying polling agents and remaining at polling units until counting is completed. He also warned against electoral intimidation and vote-buying during a digital town hall with Nigerians at home and abroad.

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has urged Nigerians to play an active role in protecting their votes during the 2027 presidential election. Speaking at a Global Digital Townhall streamed through Zoom, YouTube and other social media platforms, Obi called on voters to remain at their polling units after voting until ballots had been counted. “We must stay and insist that votes must count,” he said.

He also urged supporters to mobilise voters and ensure that polling agents were present across the country. Obi said his campaign was working to strengthen its network of polling agents and was collaborating with other political parties to support free, fair and credible elections. He warned Nigerians against accepting money or allowing intimidation to determine their choices.

Obi argued that funds used to influence voters could otherwise have been spent on security, hospitals and education. The former governor also called for stronger action against insecurity. He said security agencies should receive the logistics and support required to protect Nigerians, adding that their families should be cared for if officers were affected by their duties.

Obi said the country needed a president who would lead from the front. The town hall was part of his mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 election, with vote protection and grassroots participation at the centre of his message.
