Social media influencer and makeup artist Mad Sandhu was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne attackers on Loharka Road in Amritsar, police said. The motive remains unknown, while officers said they were pursuing multiple leads. Opposition leaders have criticised Punjab’s AAP government and called for an investigation into reported threats against him.
Punjabi social media influencer and makeup artist Mad Sandhu was shot dead by two unidentified persons in Amritsar on Saturday evening, police said. The shooting took place on Loharka Road at about 6 p.m., according to the police. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sirivennela said the attackers arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire at Sandhu and fled.
Police said around two to three rounds were fired. An eyewitness told police that Sandhu was shot at close range. Sandhu, whose real name was Madhusudan, had gone to a shop to collect his car after it had been sent for washing, police said.
He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. A video circulating on social media appeared to show him lying injured on the road as people attempted to lift him. Police teams reached the scene after receiving information about the shooting.
The ADCP said investigators had some leads and would catch the accused soon. The motive had not been established, and police said they were examining multiple angles. Sandhu discussed makeup artistry and gender issues on podcasts and digital platforms.
He had 2.26 lakh Instagram followers and had acted in the Punjabi film “Oye Bhole Oye”. The source material also says that a Nihang Sikh had objected several months earlier to Sandhu’s online content and clothing. Congress leader Raj Kumar Verka criticised the AAP government over the law-and-order situation and demanded Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s resignation.
Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said Sandhu had received threats over a long period and had spoken about them publicly. Aujla called for the accused to be arrested and for investigators to examine the threats, their origin and any earlier police action.
