Rhodes-Vivour outlines housing, transport and security pledges for Lagos

African Democratic Congress governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has promised 100,000 housing units in four years if elected Lagos governor in 2027. He also proposed affordable transport, ward-level skills programmes, police help desks and greater local-government involvement in waste management.
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the African Democratic Congress candidate for Lagos governor in 2027, has pledged to deliver 100,000 housing units during a first term and expand affordable transport across the state. Rhodes-Vivour made the commitments on Thursday at a special town hall meeting hosted by The Platform, a thought leadership initiative of The Covenant Nation in Lagos. He also outlined proposals on employment, policing, youth skills and waste management.
He said his administration would establish skills and employment opportunities at ward and local-government levels. The programme would include free training in trades such as tiling, bricklaying and plaster-of-Paris work, with participants subsequently engaged in public housing projects. Rhodes-Vivour said the approach would also address insecurity by offering people involved in street thuggery an alternative route into productive work.
He said those engaged through housing projects would earn more than the minimum wage, although the source material provides no further details of the proposed scheme. On relations between residents and the police, he promised help desks across the state and a telephone line for young people who felt intimidated or unfairly treated by officers. He said lawyers would review such complaints and assist affected residents.
The candidate also pledged to create a multimodal transport system that would be affordable and connect more parts of Lagos. He said all the planned transport lines would be created within two years and that partnerships with private companies would help improve connectivity. Rhodes-Vivour further proposed decentralising waste management by giving local governments a larger role.
He said the policy would improve efficiency and create a waste-to-wealth chain capable of producing energy from waste.
