Saudi medical team performs 52 free urological surgeries in Kano

A six-day specialist outreach at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital has provided free urological surgery to 52 patients, according to the Kano State Government. The programme was conducted by doctors from Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, with the state promising to deepen healthcare cooperation.
Fifty-two patients have received free urological surgeries during a six-day medical outreach supported by Saudi Arabia at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano, the state government has said. The specialist programme was conducted by doctors from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and targeted vulnerable residents unable to afford specialised surgical treatment. It was formally unveiled and brought to a close at the hospital on Friday.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf commended the Saudi government and visiting medical team for supporting residents requiring specialist care. He said the intervention was the fourth occasion on which a Saudi medical team had conducted a surgical outreach in the state. Yusuf also recalled that more than 2,300 free eye surgeries had been carried out in Kano during a similar intervention in 2023.
He said the state government would continue strengthening its healthcare partnership with Saudi Arabia and expanding access to specialised services. The governor said arrangements were being made for open-heart surgeries to begin in Kano. He also pledged continued investment in healthcare infrastructure and human resources, as well as support for the management and staff of AKTH.
The state government said its wider healthcare commitments included recruiting medical personnel and improving access to specialised medical and surgical treatment. Yusuf also thanked Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Nigeria and the country’s consul general in Kano, Sheikh Khalil Ahmad. The outreach team leader, urologist Dr Ali Ibn Mahfouz, said the visiting specialists completed the required procedures without complications.
He attributed the outcome to the expertise of the team and cooperation from AKTH medical personnel.
