The Telangana government has recognised Hyderabad’s Youngistaan Foundation for its work supporting older people, including residents of care homes and vulnerable elderly people. The organisation says it has reached more than 850 senior citizens and is expanding an intergenerational companionship programme with government partners.

The Telangana government has felicitated Hyderabad-based Youngistaan Foundation for its work on the welfare, care and social inclusion of senior citizens. The recognition was presented during the state-level observance of the International Day of Older Persons 2026 at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad on October 1. Minister for Scheduled Castes Development, Tribal Welfare, Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens and Transgender Persons Adluri Laxman Kumar presented the honour.

Youngistaan Foundation has reached more than 850 senior citizens across Hyderabad through its initiatives, according to the organisation’s account of its work. Its activities cover 15 senior citizen and elder-care homes, as well as more than 30 gated communities, senior citizen welfare associations and residential welfare associations. The foundation provides groceries, food and medicines and supports old-age homes.

It also offers counselling and rehabilitation to vulnerable and homeless elderly people. The organisation is expanding its work through Senior Saathi, an intergenerational companionship initiative developed with the Hyderabad District Administration and the Department for Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens. Under the programme, trained young volunteers are paired with senior citizens for regular interactions.

These include conversations, reading, games, walks, community activities and shared meals. The initiative places social contact alongside material assistance, with the stated aim of encouraging greater inclusion for older people. The supplied material did not provide details of the size of the Senior Saathi programme or its planned expansion beyond the existing work.

The felicitation came as Telangana marked the International Day of Older Persons, bringing attention to the foundation’s stated work with elderly residents in care homes, communities and vulnerable circumstances.
