Telangana orders fast-track review of long-pending urban land cases

The Telangana government has ordered officials to speed up the examination and disposal of applications pending under the Urban Land Ceiling Act, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said on Sunday. The directive covers cases involving partially regularised and unregularised colonies. Reddy said resolving the applications would help people whose land-related matters had remained unsettled for decades, making it difficult to establish rights and complete transactions.

He said the government had issued Memo No. 48062/ULC/A1/2026-1, directing officials to examine pending applications submitted under Government Orders 455, 456, 747 and 92. Eligible cases are to be regularised after the procedures required by the rules have been completed.

According to the minister, an order issued by the previous BRS government in 2016 to address pending Urban Land Ceiling applications was not implemented. As a result, thousands of applications remained unresolved. Reddy linked the new decision to the government’s wider work on issues connected with Section 22A of the Registration Act.

He said the move followed an assurance by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in the Legislative Assembly on September 16 to resolve major problems through a fast-track mechanism. The government has already formed a high-level committee on Section 22A issues and issued memoranda under Government Orders 118 and 76, the minister said.

It has also allowed registration of certain houses, plots and flats covered by Section 22A where they have valid approvals from relevant urban and local authorities.
