Telangana power utility to promote rooftop solar through consumer outreach
TGNPDCL will hold ‘Seva Sethu’ programmes from October 1 to 3 at its divisional headquarters to explain the PM Surya Ghar scheme and encourage rooftop solar installations. The Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited will organise consumer-awareness programmes from October 1 to 3 to promote rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar–Muft Bijli Yojana. The ‘Seva Sethu’ programmes will be held at TGNPDCL division headquarters. Officials from the power utility, the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation and participating banks will explain the application process and available support.
TGNPDCL Chief Engineer K. Venkata Ramana said the sessions would cover Central subsidies, bank loans, net metering and the benefits of installing rooftop solar systems. Under the scheme, eligible domestic consumers can receive Central Financial Assistance of ₹30,000 for a 1-kilowatt system, ₹60,000 for a 2-kW system and up to ₹78,000 for a 3-kW system.
Ramana said a 3-kW system could generate about 450 units of electricity each month, helping households reduce bills and potentially earn from surplus power. The utility said 29,621 rooftop solar connections had been registered in the TGNPDCL area, representing about 97 megawatts of installed capacity. A further 20,000 applications were being processed and were expected to add roughly 60 MW.
Ramana said the outreach would later be extended to villages and towns. During a video conference on Wednesday, he instructed field officials to ensure that consumers could obtain information and resolve questions through a single platform involving the utility, TGREDCO and banks.
