Vijayawada to host Utsav and Saras Mela during Dasara festivities
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath said the city would host Vijayawada Utsav from October 11 to 20 and the National Saras Mela from October 8 to 23. Events will focus on Punnami Ghat and include cultural programmes, regional food, crafts and activities linked to the Dasara celebrations.
Preparations are under way in Vijayawada for the Vijayawada Utsav and National Saras Mela during the Dasara festivities, MP Kesineni Sivanath said on Sunday. The MP said the Vijayawada Utsav would run from October 11 to 20 alongside the Navaratri celebrations. The National Saras Mela is scheduled from October 8 to 23.
The events will be held mainly at the 18-acre Punnami Ghat, with additional programmes planned at Makineni Basavapunnaiah Stadium, Sivanath said while addressing the media. The 10-day Utsav will feature cultural programmes by artists from different parts of the country. A food festival showcasing cuisines from various regions will also be organised.
Sivanath said efforts were being made to bring elephants from Mysuru to Vijayawada for the festivities. Chief ministers of several States and Union Ministers were being invited, he added. Programmes reflecting the cultural traditions of different States are also planned.
The MP said organisers were preparing a special itinerary allowing visitors to combine a visit to the Kanaka Durga temple with the Utsav and the Saras Mela. He suggested that visitors plan a two-day stay, with temple darshan in the morning and participation in cultural events and the fair in the evening. Sivanath said the celebrations were intended to showcase Vijayawada’s cultural and artistic traditions.
He said last year’s Vijayawada Utsav was attended by the Vice-President, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and a large number of people.
