Wike says he will resign if Tinubu loses FCT and Rivers in 2027

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has said he will resign from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet if the President loses the 2027 presidential election in both the FCT and Rivers State. Wike made the declaration during an engagement with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja. A statement issued by his senior special assistant on public communication and social media, Lere Olayinka, said the minister tied his continued service to his ability to deliver electoral results in the areas where he holds political influence.

Wike said that if Tinubu lost in the two territories at the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027, he would announce his resignation the following day. “If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” he said. He added that he would not be qualified to remain FCT minister if he could not deliver the territory for the President.

The statement was presented as a firm political commitment made during the meeting. Wike also outlined a strategy for the FCT, saying the administration was building a coalition across political parties to secure victory in different elective contests. He endorsed Tinubu for the presidency and named candidates he said the coalition was supporting for legislative seats.

“For the Presidency, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Wike said, while also backing Philip Aduda for the Senate and two former area council chairmen for the House of Representatives.
