The commission’s chairman, Ibrahim Yabani, declared the results on Sunday at its headquarters in Damaturu, the state capital. He said the election had been conducted across the state’s 17 local government areas and 178 electoral wards.
Yabani described the exercise as hitch-free and said 10 political parties had participated. Parties fielded candidates for chairmanship positions in all 17 local government areas and for councillorship seats across the wards, he said. The commission chairman said voting ended on Saturday, after which votes were counted and collated.
Councillorship results were declared at ward level, while chairmanship results were announced at local government collation centres. The declared APC winners included Musa Kalan Dagona in Bade, Bukar Adamu in Damaturu, Abdulmumini Usaini in Fika and Baba Goni Bade in Fune. Other successful candidates included Mohammed Musa in Geidam, Dala Mala in Gujba, Dayyabu Ilu in Gulani, Umaru Aguwa Jakusko in Jakusko and Mohammed Ahmed Mairami in Nguru.
The party also won in Bursari, Karasuwa, Machina, Nangere, Potiskum, Tarmuwa, Yunusari and Yusufari. Despite the chairmanship sweep, opposition parties secured two councillorship seats. The African People’s Party won one in Fune Local Government Area, while the Action Democratic Party won one in Karasuwa.
