Ekiti governor dissolves boards and political appointments ahead of second term

Statutory commissions, tertiary-institution councils and several senior education officials were excluded from the decisions announced by his media adviser.
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals in the state, while terminating the appointments of political aides ahead of his second-term inauguration. The governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, announced the decision in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Sunday. He said the changes were necessary because the governor’s first term was gradually winding down before the inauguration scheduled for October 16, 2026.
The affected political appointees include special assistants, senior special assistants and technical assistants. Oyebanode said the chairmen and members of statutory boards would remain in office. The exemptions include the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.
The governing councils of state-owned tertiary institutions were also left intact. The chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission will remain in office, although their respective boards have been dissolved. Directors-general and technical advisers to the governor were also excluded from the termination of appointments.
Oyebanji thanked the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and wished them success. Separately, the governor said his administration would continue investing in education, infrastructure, staff development and institutional capacity during his second term. Represented by Secretary to the State Government Habibat Adubiaro, he spoke at the combined convocation of Ekiti State College of Technology, Ijero-Ekiti.
A total of 5,742 students received National Diploma and Higher National Diploma certificates. The institution’s governing council said it needed increased government funding, lecturers and facilities to support its new polytechnic status.
