EESL to present India’s energy-efficiency projects at German study tour

Energy Efficiency Services Limited will showcase Indian energy-efficiency and clean-energy programmes at a knowledge-exchange programme in Ravensburg, Germany, from September 28 to October 2. The agency is expected to present initiatives spanning lighting, solar power, smart metering, electric mobility and water systems, including Hyderabad’s LED street-lighting project.
Energy Efficiency Services Limited will present India’s experience with energy-efficiency and clean-energy programmes at an international knowledge-exchange programme in Germany from September 28 to October 2. The agency, which operates under India’s Ministry of Power, was invited by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit to join the study tour in Ravensburg and share its work in energy efficiency, clean-energy solutions and sustainable development. EESL Media and Government Affairs Adviser A.
Chandra Shekhara Reddy said the invitation would allow the agency to explain how large-scale programmes had been adapted into practical solutions across different regions and sectors. The agency plans to highlight projects from several Indian States. These include energy-efficient cooking systems in Andhra Pradesh anganwadi centres, street lighting in Telangana, decentralised solar systems in Maharashtra and energy-efficient buildings in Gujarat.
Other initiatives to be presented include smart metering in Bihar, street-lighting programmes in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, electric mobility in Odisha, micro cold-storage systems in Himachal Pradesh and energy-efficient water pumping in Kerala. EESL will also present the LED street-lighting project implemented in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area. According to EESL records, about 5.5 lakh conventional street lights were replaced with LED lights.
The agency said the Hyderabad project produced energy savings of more than 61 per cent. It reported annual savings of 230 million units, a reduction of 0.19 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year and avoided peak demand of 60 MW. The programme will provide a forum for participants to exchange knowledge on the design and implementation of energy-efficiency measures.
EESL said its examples would demonstrate the potential of solutions that can be scaled while being adapted to local conditions.
