Hyderabad metro adviser given wider urban transport role

Former Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N.V.S. Reddy has been given additional responsibilities covering urban transport and metro rail projects in Telangana. Reddy, who is currently an adviser to the government on urban transport and metro rail, will coordinate the proposed common ticketing system linking the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation with other public transport modes.
He will also work on introducing daily, weekly and monthly metro passes, either independently or in coordination with the RTC. According to a government order issued by Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on Saturday, Reddy will oversee the operations and maintenance of the existing Phase I Hyderabad Metro Rail network alongside Additional Managing Director Ajit Reddy. The order also assigns him a role in planning traffic and transport projects undertaken by municipal corporations in the Hyderabad Metropolitan area.
Reddy will provide inputs to those projects and guide civic agencies on measures intended to improve urban mobility. His responsibilities will also include assisting with the operation and expansion of the metro rail network. The expanded assignment places the former metro managing director at the centre of efforts involving ticketing, passenger passes, network operations and wider transport planning across the metropolitan area.
