Jigawa auctioneers propose partnership to curb asset-sale revenue losses

The Jigawa State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers has asked the state government to establish a formal partnership aimed at reducing revenue leakages from the disposal of public assets. The association’s chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, made the request during a courtesy visit to the state Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, in Dutse on Friday. He said auctioneers could help the government secure competitive prices and ensure that proceeds were paid directly into state coffers.

Abdullahi said the proposed collaboration would allow assets designated for auction to be disposed of efficiently and at competitive values. He also appealed to the government to recognise auctioneers as professional partners in the asset-disposal process. “Our collaboration will ensure that state assets are auctioned efficiently, securing optimal deals, and ensuring all proceeds are remitted directly to state coffers,” he said.

The chairman said members had contributed to Jigawa’s economic development and that the association had regained unity. He also said the association’s members were working with citizens at the grassroots, while expressing support for Governor Umar Namadi’s re-election bid. Dagaceri commended the group’s proposal and said the administration was ready to work with it.

He said unity among auctioneers was important for maintaining transparency and accountability in the profession. The Head of Service added that the Namadi administration was committed to plugging revenue leakages and would cooperate with professional bodies that promoted transparency, accountability and increased revenue. He urged the association to preserve its unity and uphold professional ethics as the state strengthened its revenue drive.
