Named ‘Yatri Mitra’, the patrol vehicle was introduced at the Mysuru Palace on Sunday during World Tourism Day celebrations. It will move between the palace, Chamundi Hill, Mysuru Zoo, the railway station and the bus stand.
The service is intended to prevent tourists from being misled by touts who allegedly offer false information about attractions and services. Two trained ‘Tourist Mithras’ will operate with the vehicle and act as first responders during medical, security and other emergencies. They will also give visitors information about attractions, provide route guidance and offer assistance when required.
The initiative carries the tagline “Safe Journey, Memorable Experience.” The project was conceptualised by Prabhuswamy V.M., a former Assistant Director of the Department of Tourism in Mysuru and Special Officer to the Minister for Energy and Tourism. GRS Fantasy Park and Baliga Investments Private Limited have provided the vehicle, a dedicated driver and fuel expenses for the trial period under a sponsored collaboration. The trial began on September 27 and will continue until October 31, covering the busy Dasara tourism season.
The Tourism Department plans to review tourist feedback and operational experience before deciding whether to continue the service permanently. Officials also plan to consider extending the model to other major tourist destinations in Mysuru if the trial produces a positive assessment.
