Rivers ADC candidate rejects claims of imposed governor ahead of 2027 poll

Rivers State governorship candidate Gabriel Pidomson says voters will resist any attempt to impose their next governor. The African Democratic Congress candidate criticised the political arrangement associated with Nyesom Wike, promised to monitor polling and called on security agencies to protect political participation.
Gabriel Pidomson, the African Democratic Congress candidate for governor of Rivers State, has said voters will reject any attempt to impose a governor in the 2027 election. Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Pidomson described the election as a referendum by Rivers people on who should govern the state. He said it would not simply be a contest between individual candidates or political blocs.
Pidomson criticised the so-called Rainbow Coalition, a political arrangement in Rivers initiated by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. He said the state was not the property of any individual or political group and claimed that voters were dissatisfied with the domination of the state by one political figure. The ADC candidate said his party had conducted consultations across Rivers and among ethnic and other stakeholder groups.
He said those engagements indicated demand for a responsive government, and added that the party’s 10-point agenda focused on the welfare of residents. Pidomson said ADC agents would be deployed across polling units to monitor voting and the collation of results. He urged voters to remain at polling stations until results were announced and said the party would not be intimidated or prevented from participating.
He also called on the police, the Department of State Services and other security agencies to protect constitutional political activity. Pidomson alleged that some ADC activities had been disrupted by APC members and asked authorities to investigate and prosecute anyone found responsible. He said his campaign was prepared for the contest and claimed to have support across ethnic groups.
Pidomson also urged voters to accept any inducement offered during the campaign but vote according to their conscience.
