Nigeria’s Super Eagles arrived in Bissau on Sunday ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau. Nigeria conceded first before George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored in either half to secure three points for coach Eric Chelle’s side.
Madagascar took the lead through Ehsan Kari in the 16th minute. Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali later made a key second-half save to deny Rayan Raveloson before Usor scored the winning goal. Nigeria held a closed training session on Sunday morning before leaving for the airport.
Chelle is scheduled to oversee another session in Bissau on Monday ahead of the match at the Estádio 24 de Setembro. Guinea-Bissau also won its opening Group L match, beating co-hosts Tanzania 2-0. That result put the Djurtus top of the group on goal difference before the second round of fixtures.
Both teams are seeking a second consecutive victory. Tanzania and Madagascar are due to meet in the other group game on Tuesday, while Tanzania’s status as a co-host means only one team from the group will secure automatic qualification. Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau previously met in the qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON.
Guinea-Bissau won 1-0 in Abuja before Nigeria responded with a 1-0 victory in Bissau. Tuesday’s match is scheduled to kick off at 5pm Nigerian time.
