Telangana BC-A group asks Bandi Sanjay to withdraw caste-category remarks

The BC-A Kulala Hakkula Parirakshana Samithi has urged Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar to withdraw his reported support for moving the Mudhiraj community from the BC-D group to the BC-A group in Telangana’s reservation classification. The organisation made the demand at a press conference in Hyderabad on Sunday. Its founder-president, retired professor M.

Bagaiah, described the minister’s position as biased and unjustified. Bagaiah said the BC-A group comprised 57 castes, most of which were behind the Mudhiraj community in social and economic terms. He argued that the community’s larger population and comparatively stronger position should be considered before any change was made.

The Samithi’s president, Gadapa Srihari, and spokesperson, Kante Ramchander, also challenged the claim that the Supreme Court had suggested including the Mudhiraj community in the BC-A group. The organisation said any decision affecting the reservation category should be based on a scientific assessment. It said authorities should examine population figures as well as educational attainment, financial condition and social status.

The Samithi appealed to the government to compare the economic, educational and political representation of the community concerned with that of the communities already included in BC-A. Its leaders said the Union minister had a constitutional responsibility to address the concerns of all communities rather than support one group at the expense of others. They warned that attempts to include additional communities in BC-A would meet stiff resistance.
